Today in NASCAR news:

  • Joe Gibbs Racing to be featured in new television special. SPEED and IMG Sports Media plan a four one-hour special featuring behind-the-scenes of JGR as they prepare for the Daytona 500 beginning on Jan. 24, possibly on the SPEED channel. The special will give fans an inside look as to what it takes to get ready for the biggest race of the year.
  • Jeff Gordon to be featured on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Gordon will be featured as the celebrity builder on an upcoming episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The makeover took place in Horry County, S.C.
  • Hunt Brothers Pizza moving to Elliott Sadler’s car. Read the rest of this entry »

Goodbye ‘Busch’ Series?

It looks as if the “Busch” series may have come to an abrupt end Sunday at Martinsville Speedway as Jimmie Johnson won his first race of the season. Neither Busch brother was a factor for the win. Kyle could have been if he hadn’t been the cause of an early race caution after getting into Scott Speed sending them both spinning. And Kurt just wasn’t there all day. He did managed to finish on the lead lap in 18th.

As for the rest of the race, well, it looked as if Denny Hamlin was going to win. He took the lead early on lap 156 and pretty much never looked back. That was until Jimmie Johnson decided he wanted the lead and the win. Read the rest of this entry »

Attendance Not Impressive At NASCAR’s Atlanta Motor Speedway

The Atlanta race proved to be a beautiful day, as many meteorologist predicted, especially for winner Kurt Busch, who lead 234 of the 330 scheduled laps.

Despite the beautiful weather, the attendance wasn’t so beautiful. The attendance is one of two things that sparked conversation and news online after (and during) Sunday’s race.

Atlanta Motor Speedway is not known to have a sellout with either of their two races, but the race track is usually full come race day, or close. With the economy the way it is, NASCAR fans can’t afford to attend races.

Granted, AMS, along with other tracks, have reduced ticket prices in an effort to help ticket buyers. On Sunday, however, there were patches of empty seats all around. Many of the drivers took notice of the emptiness and were baffled. Read the rest of this entry »

Rainy Weather Ends Daytona 500 Early

The wait is over. The first official race of the year — the Daytona 500 — has come and gone. It was nothing like NASCAR fans expected considering the weather decided to play havoc and shortened the “biggest race of the year” by 48 laps. Harvick Takes Shootout Win

It’s all about the money, or at least for Kevin Harvick it is. Harvick, who hasn’t won a points race since the 2007 Daytona 500, stole Saturday night’s Budweiser Shootout win. It was his first win since the 2007 All-Star race, another race worth a bunch of money, but no points.

From Harvick’s steal to a record number of lead changes (23), the 75-lap race was full of excitement and dramatic wrecks from start to finish. Read the rest of this entry »
