Today in NASCAR news:

  • Kellogg’s partners with Roush Fenway Racing’s Carl Edwards. Kellogg’s will be the primary sponsor of Carl Edwards’ No. 99 Ford for two races this season and associate sponsor for the remaining races. Kellogg’s is also ending their 16-year stint with Hendrick Motorsports who was the primary sponsor for Mark Martin’s No. 5 Chevrolet last season. Aflac is the primary sponsor of the No. 99.
  • Krafts Foods partners with Stewart-HAAS Racing. Read the rest of this entry »

The Atlanta race proved to be a beautiful day, as many meteorologist predicted, especially for winner Kurt Busch, who lead 234 of the 330 scheduled laps.

Despite the beautiful weather, the attendance wasn’t so beautiful. The attendance is one of two things that sparked conversation and news online after (and during) Sunday’s race.

Atlanta Motor Speedway is not known to have a sellout with either of their two races, but the race track is usually full come race day, or close. With the economy the way it is, NASCAR fans can’t afford to attend races.

Granted, AMS, along with other tracks, have reduced ticket prices in an effort to help ticket buyers. On Sunday, however, there were patches of empty seats all around. Many of the drivers took notice of the emptiness and were baffled. Read the rest of this entry »

Engine Woes In Vegas

Posted by Penni On March - 6 - 2009

Engine troubles were a major issue last weekend in Las Vegas as many Sprint Cup drivers experienced engine failure.

The first engine failure came during Friday’s practice session when Kyle Busch’s No. 18 Toyota blew and engine. The team replaced the engine and despite his engine woes he was able to capture the Coors Light Pole. However, he had to start at the rear of the field and won the race at his home track.

In fact the pre-qualifying engine woes did not effect the other four Toyota’s that had to switch engines after qualifying. Read the rest of this entry »

It Was A Trifecta For NASCAR Champion Jimmie Johnson

The 2008 NASCAR season officially came to an end Sunday night as Carl Edwards took the checkered flag for a record ninth time this season only to finish second in the points behind Jimmie Johnson who scored his third consecutive Sprint Cup Championship.

Johnson is now a part of history becoming the second driver, along with Cale Yarborough, to win three consecutive titles. Johnson’s crew chief, Chad Knaus, goes into the history books as the only crew chief to achieve the feat.

Johnson’s third title was inevitable with an 141-point lead going into the finale, but Edwards wasn’t giving up. Read the rest of this entry »

Jimmie Johnson Is One Race Away From Making History

Posted by Penni On November - 12 - 2008

If you’re living under a rock or refusing to accept reality than you don’t know or have chosen not to acknowledge that Jimmie Johnson is more than likely going to win the Sprint Cup championship for the third straight season.

Granted there is a 141-point difference between Johnson and Carl Edwards, and this is NASCAR. So, anything’s possible, but luck is on Johnson’s side.

There are obviously several scenarios that could come into play this coming weekend for Johnson (or Edwards). The obvious one could be Johnson having a major problem and getting a DNF (did not finish) skyrocketing Edwards to the top of the points standings with a win. Unfortunately, that scenario isn’t the most logical or most likely. Read the rest of this entry »

NASCAR Championship Season Closing Out Soon

Posted by Penni On November - 5 - 2008

It was a weekend full of repeats at Texas Motor Speedway as Ron Hornaday Jr., Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards all made their second trip to TMS’ Victory Lane for the year.

Hornaday, who was the favorite to win, experienced misfortune early on, as the caution came out while he was pitting. He regained the lead and made his way to the front of the pack, passing leader Busch, to captured the win. He is now only six points out of the lead in the Craftsman’s truck series point standings.

The Nationwide race, like the truck race, was dominated by Busch. After starting fourth, Busch quickly made his way to the front taking the lead from Kevin Harvick, who had started second. Read the rest of this entry »
