Today in NASCAR news:

  • NASCAR to change COT? NASCAR is set to make an announcement Jan. 21 about possible changes to the COT (Car of Tomorrow/Today) and rule changes. It is expected that the COT announcement will be about the rear wing and the possiblity of replacing it with a rear spoiler, similar to the one used in the Nationwide series. The change, if official, is likely to appear by Bristol or Martinsville in March. Other changes have also been mentioned for the COT. Possible rule changes pertain to the yellow lines at superspeedways and “no bumping zones,” just to a name a few.
  • Aric Almirola to drive for Phoenix Racing. Almirola said he is set to run the full season with Phoenix Racing in the No. 09 Chevrolet in the Sprint Cup series. He is also set to run a limited amount of races for Billy Ballew Motorsports in the Camping World truck series. Plans have not been finalized.
